I've been searching through the darkness
Looking up to find a sign
Running down a thousand highways
Trying to reach the divine
But I stopped and caught my reflection
In the mirror on the wall
And I heard a voice inside me
The same voice that created all
Every morning when I wake up
The first words upon my lips
Are the oldest name in heaven
That have never ceased to exist
I AM — when I'm broken
I AM — when I'm whole
I AM — when the night falls
I AM — in my soul
The God who spoke the stars to life
Is the breath behind my name
When I say I AM, I'm speaking His
We are one and the same
Never far, never foreign
Never lost, never alone —
The Kingdom isn't somewhere out there...
The Kingdom is home
I AM tired, I AM weary
I AM loved beyond my shame
I AM healing, I AM chosen
I AM calling out His name
But listen — every time I say it
Something ancient stirs inside
Like a burning bush that never fades
Like a hand that parts the tide
He's not sitting up in heaven
Cold and distant, far above
He is every breath you're breathing
He is every act of love
Jesus said — "Don't search the heavens,
don't search the sea,
The Kingdom of God is inside of thee."
So when you're standing in the dark
And you can't feel anything
Put your hand upon your heartbeat...
That's God still whispering —
I AM with you
I AM in you
I AM for you
I have always been
I AM — when I'm weeping
I AM — when I soar
I AM — when I'm empty
I AM — when I'm more
The voice that called the light from nothing
Is alive inside your frame
Every time you say I AM
You are speaking His great name
Never far, never foreign
Never lost, never alone —
Look into that mirror, child of God...
You've been home. You've always been home.
I AM... I AM... I AM...
We are.
